The Clockwork Three – Launch Party

I just received something amazing in the mail from Lisa, my editor.  It’s this:

I cannot tell you how satisfying and surreal it is to hold that in my hands.  Years of hard work, rejection, more hard work, more rejection, finally culminating in this.  A book.  That I wrote.  For all the writers out there with dreams of being published, keep at it.  It will happen.

The Clockwork Three will officially be in bookstores October 1st, though you might see it a little earlier.  In fact, I’m holding a launch party the night before to celebrate the event.  I’ll be speaking, giving a short reading, answering questions, and then signing books.  It will be held at the fabulous King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City, and all are welcome to attend.

Here’s a recap of the details:

Date: September 30, 2010

Time: 6:00 PM

Location: The King’s English Bookshop (1511 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City)

I hope to see everyone there!

  1. That is so cool! I want one! Badly enough to use both exclamation points AND adverbs. I still can’t get over how incredible your cover design turned out. For those of us who still can’t help judging a book by it’s cover, at least a little bit, that’s a big deal. I want to be seen reading this book. Besides, I know it’s great 🙂 I’ll try to make the launch. Congrats!

  2. I just picked up your book about a week ago. I am halfway through now and it is very interesting. I cannot wait to read what happens. Hopefully I will finish today, as I am doing a presentation on it for my class on Thursday. My cover is different, though. It does not have the children on the front: just the clockwork man.

I will be sure to let you know how the presentation turned out. Good luck!

  3. Hi Matt,

I have talked with you a couple of times – once at WIFYR and again at WRITING for CHARITY. I am the Secondary Literacy Specialist at Jordan School District and the president of the Jordan Council of International Reading Association (JCIRA).

I am VERY excited to read CLOCKWORK THREE and hope to attend the launch! I also PROMOTE Utah writers on 2 of my 3 blogs as well as in district meetings AND throug JCIRA which also services Canyons Districts’ teachers.

So, all of this is a lead-in to ask if you could work with some other Utah authors that you know and love at our April meeting. Cheri Earl and Rick Walton are presenting in March and walking members through starting a novel, picture book, story, etc. And then in April, I’m inviting local authors to come and workshop their drafts like we do at WRITING for CHARITY.

I’m thinking this will be a great promo for WIFYR, too. I’m trying to raise some money to give you a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for your efforts. Do you think this might be a possibility????

Sorry to ask you this way, but I don’t have an e-address for you.

Thanks s’much for your consideration! Renae

  4. As you should be!! You are off to a wonderful start with this. I can’t wait to read it! I keep getting Steam Punkish ideas…I think I am headed there next if I can discover something unique and interesting.

  5. Hey, I am in the process of writing my own novel for teenagers, if you could give me any pointers then that would be great. If you want to get in touch with me my e-mail address is eonetribe@aol.com

    • Hi Hunter,

That’s great that you want to write. My advice is pretty simple – find a good critique group, work on making your stories the best they can be, get out there and meet people, and submit. A great place to network with other writers, editors, and agents, as well as work on your craft is the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (www.scbwi.org). You will likely find lots of great people in your local SCBWI region.

      Hope that helps!
      Matt

  6. Hi. I just read over 300 pages of the clockwork three today. I’m only 12 years old but I saw the cover in my school library and just had to read it!! I think the cover is different because I live in the UK but it intrigued me. I’m loving the book so far and just can’t put it down, your one of my favourite authors next to Stephanie Meyer, Enid Blyton and William Shakespeare! I love the book and the concept of it is just amazing, I want to be an author or a forensic Anthropologist/ author. I’ve loved reading and writing since forever really and have written lots of short novels. I would love to share them with you one day in the future and get an honest review on my work. I hope we will meet one day when you come to England?? It would be a truly life changing experience for me to meet you in person.
    Isabelle.

    • I would love to come to England one day! For me, that would be a dream fulfilled.

Good luck with your writing. I knew I wanted to be a writer when I was your age, so hold onto that dream, okay?

  7. Yes I will hold on to that dream and I just finished the book, the twist on the treasure was truly genius one of the best books I’ve ever read!! 🙂 Isabelle
