Events, both upcoming and past

The next few weeks and months will be somewhat busy with writing-related events, and for those interested, here is what I’ll be doing:

  • First, I’ll be participating in the Provo Children’s Book Festival tomorrow, Saturday May 7th, signing books and spending time with readers in my “Author’s Corner.”  It’s a great event, with lots of activities for the whole family.  Details here.
  • On May 12th I’ll be speaking to the Granite School District Elementary Media Specialists.  I already gave a presentation to the media specialists that work in the secondary schools, and had a wonderful time.  They really made me feel welcome, and afterward I visited a couple of Jr. High schools (I have to admit I was a little nervous going into those visits, but they turned out to be absolutely wonderful).
  • On May 13th I’ll be speaking at the annual conference of the Utah Library Association.  Details here.
  • At the end of May I’ll be at the BookExpo America in New York City.  My second novel, Icefall, has been selected for the Middle Grade Editors’ Buzz Panel.  I’m incredibly excited and honored to be among the featured books.  I’m not exactly sure what my BEA schedule will be, but I will likely be speaking and signing books at some point.  If you’re at BEA, come on by and say hi!
  • In June I’ll be presenting at the Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers Workshop. This week-long workshop runs from June 13th to the 17th in Sandy, Utah.  I love this conference.  In fact, my former workshop instructor, Martine Leavitt, is back this year teaching an advanced novelist class.  I’m really excited to see her again.  Most classes are full now, but for registration and details, click here.

There are some other events coming up later in the summer, but I don’t have all the details yet.  Stay tuned!

I went to the launch of Emily Wing Smith’s latest novel, Back When You Were Easier to Love.  (Isn’t that a great title?)  Emily gave a reading and signing at The King’s English in Salt Lake City, and it was a wonderful event, notable for the debut performance by The Barely Manilows.  I’m not even going to try to explain what that is.  Instead, I’ll direct you to Brodi Ashton’s blog and let her do it.  Also, book blogger Jenni Elyse posted a great write-up here.
